The Raven Hopewell Pipe                                                                              Bobby Onken Collection

This stunning "Raven Hopewell Pipe" is from Pike Co, Illinois. It was discovered by Reed Rohrkaste who found it near Griggsville, Illinois. This highly sculptured Effigy measures 4 3/8"x 1 7/8". It is believed that this pipe as well as the legendary "Bedford Beaver Pipe" may have been made by the same creator. Both pipes are extremely lifelike in design and are made from the same material including their original River Pearl inlaid eyes. The Raven and the Beaver were found ten miles apart which highly supports the possibility of this theory.

This piece was most recently published in Legends of Prehistoric Art, Volume II (Onken, pg 408).
